In this class, you will learn different methods of studying master works, from simple thumbnail sketching and monochrome painting to a full-scale master copy. Through this practice, you will learn the fundamentals of composition, controlling values, mixing color, manipulating edges and paint application. Each week will build on the lessons of the previous week. This class is ideal for beginner to intermediate students.
Many aspiring artists understand that drawing is fundamental to painting, but still struggle to learn the basics of good draftsmanship. Applying these skills to the practice of painting can be even more daunting. In this class, you will focus on using a painterly approach to charcoal to learn the basics of drawing in a way that translates readily to painting. Each week will focus on different subjects that will gradually build in complexity to keep you challenged and engaged in the learning process.
